Remember Oakwood

REMEMBER OAKWOOD. I can’t help it but i just got this gut feeling that the Oakwood Incident will be the New Cry of Pugad-Lawin. Lest we forget the bravery of the Magdalo soldiers, below is their original group message.

Magdalo Group Message to the Filipino People

Oakwood Makati
July 27, 2003

We are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Today we stand before our people to declare our withdrawal of support from the chain of command of the AFP and the government of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. We are not doing this because we want power or we want to destabilize our country. We are doing this because of the following major crimes of the government against our people:

First, the GMA government, through the AFP leadership and Secretary Angelo Reyes, has been selling bullets and arms from the government arsenal to the MILF, Abu Sayyaf and the NPA. These bullets, which kill our soldiers, actually came from the very government that we fighting to defend. This is why there is a war for over 30 years now, and still our enemies have not run out of bullets. As evidence, all the bullets that were recovered from the enemy had the markings that they came from the DND arsenal. A number of soldiers have died, and even more are going to die in a war that they do not plan to end. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of civilians have been caught helpless in the crossfire. They do not want the war to end so that it will continue to be a milking cow of greedy and treacherous officials in the AFP and in the government. We have experienced the true situation of our soldiers. We have shared hardships and sacrifices in the face of an armed conflict, but the support we need against the jaws of death have been pocketed by a few leaders looking out only for their selfish interests. We believe that we cannot attain genuine peace while the corrupt and greedy are leading the AFP and the PNP. And without peace, the Philippines cannot prosper.

Second, the GMA government through the special operations teams of Sec. Reyes and Gen. Corpus, is responsible for the Davao City bombings. They did this to finally tag the MILF as terrorist, to serve as basis for asking from the anti-terrorist fund of the USA before GMA’s visit. Civilian lives were sacrificed in exchange for the military hardware that GMA begged from the USA.

Third, we have uncovered GMA’s plan to declare martial law this coming August so that her clique can perpetuate themselves in power beyond 2004. They will do this through a series of bombings in Metro Manila, which they would blame on different groups. The escape of Fathur Al-Ghozi was the start of this operation. Fellow Filipinos, the real terrorists are inside our government. But we will not allow this to happen. We will not allow this dastardly plan of government to continue. We have sworn to protect the state and our people. We will not turn our back on this vow.

They will invoke the Constitution to confront us. But we all know that they violated the Constitution where they installed GMA through people power. We tolerated their stay in power because they promised to clean up the government and lift up the Filipino masses from poverty. But over two-and-a- half years have passed since the GMA government was swept into power, and corruption among officials in government continues. The masses continue to sink deeper into poverty. And there is the added burden of worsening peace and order situation in our country. Our people are now withdrawing what they have given to the administration of GMA. With them, we demand the resignation of our leaders in the present regime. It is no different from past administrations. This is a regime that thinks of nothing but holding on to power, to enrich themselves, and to coddle rich and influential personalities.

For these reasons, we are willing to sacrifice our lives today, to pursue a program that is not tainted with politicking, and which we believe is the only hope for our nation to recover and progress. This is the National Recovery Program (NRP). If we analyze it, this is the only program, and no other, that provides solutions to the principal problems of our country.
To our people and our fellow soldiers, let us unite behind the NRP and remain vigilant to ensure its realization.

We have taken this stand now, not only to air the grievances of the members of the AFP but to lend our voice to the grievances of the Filipino people. To all our fellow members of the AFP and the Filipino people, if you judge that what we are fighting for is wrong, we stand here before you and you can take our lives. But if you judge that we are right, we ask you to take a stand and support our struggle. All of these are for a better future and for the good of the coming generations.

To the media institutions whose role is to present the truth about the situation and the grievances of the Filipino people, we hope for fairness and ask that you will not allow yourselves to be used by those who want to protect their vested interests. Let the real cry of our people be heard! Do not allow it to be stifled.

Together, we can help our Motherland rise again… Let us begin now.
Long live the Filipino people!

Blog Action Day 2009

This is a repost in the spirit of my solidarity w/ the patriots of Bloggers Kapihan on the Blog Action Day versus #conass. Let’s not just say “no” to con-ass. Let’s resist and fight it in anyway we can. Let’s condemn con-ass!

No to coarse Con-Ass!

Reply of Senator Sonny Trillanes’ to Tulfo’s accusations

Sen. Antonio Sonny Trillanes IV

So the truth may be known, below is the reply of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to the accusations of columnist Mon Tulfo.

For those who are not aware yet, last July 07, Inquirer columnist Mr. Ramon Tulfo made some specific accusations against me. This was actually the third or fourth time that he has raised the same issues and I (or my lawyer) always respond to them point-by-point by writing to the Inquirer editors. So, for the nth time, here’s my point-by-point reponse to Mr. Tulfo:

1. On the issue that I have many luxury cars when I was still a junior officer. - Right after the Oakwood Incident in 2003, the NBI filed 8 cases against me at the Ombudsman purposely to smear my name. One of these is an ill-gotten wealth case relating to the allegations that I own several luxury vehicles. To date, all of these cases were dismissed precisely because they were filed primarily for propaganda purposes and, therefore, were not backed-up by evidence. The CIDG even submitted sloppily fabricated copies of vehicle OR/CRs supposedly bearing my name but all were registered in the year 1900! When the Ombudsman required them to submit the original copies, the CIDG failed to comply because they could be charged with falsification of public documents. If Mr. Tulfo was really after the truth, he should have verified with the Ombudsman. The truth of the matter is, my only vehicle when I was with the Navy was a second-hand ’96 Nissan Terrano, which I sold in 2007 to finance my campaign.

2. On the issue that I have a house in an exclusive village in Antipolo. - I do not own a house in an exclusive village in Antipolo, Rizal, as alleged by Mr. Tulfo. I never did. What Mr. Tulfo could be referring to is my parents-in-law’s house at Town and Country Village, a middle class subdivision in Antipolo which they have purchased way back in ‘89 (long before I even met my wife). In fact, I do not own a house at all when I was still with the Navy and even up to now. My family and I used to live at my wife’s quarters at PMA in Baguio City. When in Metro Manila, I stay either at my parent’s house in Caloocan or at my in-laws’. It was only last May that I acquired a 300 sqm lot in the same subdivision in Antipolo through the PAG-IBIG’s Home Financing II Program for which I will be paying for 25 years. Mr. Tulfo can verify these claims from the Register of Deeds of Rizal and from PAG-IBIG.

3. On the alleged tiff with a Dutchman and his Filipino wife. - The couple referred to, Anastacia Santarin and Adrian De Jager, have been locked in a dispute with a certain Estelita Pabalan over a vacant lot (there was no house) in Novaliches since 1999. Said property was leased as a parking lot for my mother’s rent-a-van business (duly registered at DTI with business permits) in early 2003. Sometime in March 2003, Santarin and De Jager forced their way into the premises, shoved the caretaker out, and refused to leave. When I was informed of the incident, I tried to talk to Ms. Santarin. I never met Mr. De Jager. Due to the couple’s refusal to leave, I reported the matter to the Barangay Chairman in the area. That was the extent of my participation in this matter.

A few days later, Pabalan and the caretaker reported the matter to the police. When they came to investigate, the policemen were attacked by De Jager with a knife. The policemen arrested De Jager and charged him in court with attempted homicide. He was incarcerated because of this (and his being an illegal alien) and not because of anything that I did. In fact, I had no involvement whatsoever in either the land dispute case or in De Jager’s criminal case. Court records will bear this out.

After the Oakwood incident, this couple tried to cut a deal with the government by offering themselves as witnesses against me in exchange for a favorable ruling in the land dispute. Fortunately, the police and/or prosecutors found their claim to be dubious and incredible. The couple later filed cases against me before the Ombudsman for coercion and grave threats but these cases were also dismissed for lack of merit. Again, the court records will bear this out.

I am one of those who supported the decriminalization of libel and was one of those who refused to sign the Right of Reply bill because I believe that a free and independent media is one of the hallmarks of a true democracy. But these Tulfo-type smear campaigns should not be allowed to go on, either. I can only wish that media organizations would also have a system (i.e. ethics bodies) to cleanse their own ranks of scalawags like Tulfo.

Oplan August Moon

This is a post by PatricioMangubat taken en toto from the newphilrevolution.blogspot.com,

Brace yourself my friends for a tumultuous July. Some months ago, I’ve wrote an entry about the plan of hawks and ideologues within the Arroyo administration to create scenarios to implement Operation August Moon. This self-coup will happen the week after the SONA, on August 6, 2009. One of the indicators, say a source who requested anonymity, is the expected failure of the poll automation bidding.

” Pat, the plan involves compromising the automated bidding altogether, ” says a friend privy to the plan. ” Imagine, what was the reason why they approved of Smartmatic-TIM when they know for a fact, that the only capability of the group is face value of Cezar Quiambao and Ernest Villareal. That’s all. The so-called consortium which was backed legally by one of Comelec chairman’s closest relative was never in existence. They just used the group to get the bidding and eventually the plan was really to mess things up. That would surely create unrest especially to the De Villa group who is pushing for automation of the elections.”

COMELEC Chairman Jose Melo said in an Inquirer interview that they don’t want to negotiate with a “ghost”. Well, I don’t know about Melo, but I am totally surprised with Atty. Rafanan. Why did Rafanan failed to even check the credentials of Smartmatic-TIM before they even allowed them to take part in the bidding? Is it elementary for a member of the bar to do that?

This failure of the Comelec just shows that the entire thing was a setup, a design to really sabotage the bidding and compromise the elections in May 2010.

The plan also involves the heightening of tensions between rebel groups and the military in Mindanao since most generals distrust Southcom Brig. General Juancho Sabban. They want to keep Sabban busy in Mindanao so that he’ll have his hands full while they orchestrate their moves in Metro Manila.

Sabban is the youngest member of Class 1978 yet he reportedly does not share his mistahs’ dogged allegiance to Mrs. Arroyo. He was formerly a member of RAM (Rebolusyunaryong Alyansang Makabansa). Yet, says deeper sources in the military, he’ll take extreme action once other members of his class went ahead with Arroyo’s plan.

Moves were to create an environment of chaos and confusion, with reports of bombings, assasinations of key government officials and members of the media. These black operations will be blamed to so-called JI or Al-qaeda members who, a week ago, was reportedly in the country already. News about their existence were floated to the media to be used later on by the government in the blame game.

A move against Lacson accuser former police official Cezar Mancao is reportedly also in the pipeline. The source refused to say what would happen to Mancao.

This early, talks that PMA Class 1976 of which the present AFP Chief of Staff General Ibrado belongs to and PMA Class 1978 were already at logger heads. Army Chief Lt. General Delfin Bangit is reportedly filling up sensitive posts without the knowledge of Ibrado.

Bear in mind that all sensitive positions right now in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are occupied by members of Class 1978. The Air Force is headed by Lt. Gen. Oscar Rabena. The entire NCRPO which has, under its disposal, the anti-coup task force, is headed by Chief Supt. Roberto Rosales while the head of the Manila Police District which provides external security of Malacanang right now is headed by Director Rodolfo Magtibay.

Members of Class 1976 occupy the Central Command (Lt. Gen. Isagani Cachuela), the Navy (Vice Admiral Ferdinand Golez) and the Marines (Major Gen. Ben Mohammad Dolorfino). The AFP leadership is also being occupied by a PMA class 1976 member (Ibrado) and the PNP (Director General Jesus Verzosa).

The critical commands (Army and Air Force) are under the command of members of PMA Class 1978 while those with minimal numbers (the Marines and the Navy) were entrusted to PMA Class 1976.

Sources say Mrs. Arroyo’s group will ease Ibrado out prior to the 2010 elections. They will use as a pretext this August 6 affair. Members of Class 1978 will move decisively ten days after July 27.

The plan is expected to take place on August 6, 2009, a full ten days after the SONA (SONA is slated on July 27, the Monday of the fourth week of July).

A state of martial rule will be imposed for six months, while members of Arroyo’s devilish clan tinker with the Constitution. Parliamentary elections are slated on May 2010.

Other members of Class 1978 involved in this plan:

In GHQ, Camp Aguinaldo:

J2 (Inteligence) – Rear Adm. Victor Martir (PN – Philippine Navy)
Deputy J2 – Commodore EfrenTedor (PN)
J3 (Operations)- Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza (PA – Philippine Army)
J6 (Commel) – Maj. Gen. Jonathan Martir (PM – Philippine Marines)
J7 (Civil-Military Relations) – Maj. Gen. Sealana (PA)
DND-BAC Chairman – Brig. Gen. Gregorio Paduganan (PAF – Philippine Air Force)
Chief of Engineers – Maj. Gen. Rudyval Cabading (PA)
ISAFP – Maj. Gen. Romeo Prestoza (PAF)
Presidential Security Group – Brig. Gen. Celedonio Boquiren (PAF)

In the Army, six out of 10 infantry divisions are under the control of the Class of ’78 members, namely:

Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit – Commanding General of the Philippine Army
Maj. Gen. Roland Detabali – CG, Southern Luzon Command
Maj. Gen. Romeo Lustecteca – CG, 1st Infantry Division (Zamboanga del Norte)
Brig. Gen Florante Martinez – OIC, 2nd Infantry Division (Tanay, Rizal)
Maj. Gen. Vic Porto – CG, 3rd Infantry Division (Panay Island)
Maj. Gen. Ralph Villanueva – CG, 7th Infantry Division (Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija)
Maj. Gen. Manuel Tabaquero – CG, 8th Infantry Division (Catbalogan, Samar)
Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu – CG, 10th Infantry Division (Caraga Region)

In the Air Force, there is Maj. Gen. Oscar Rabena as Commanding General, and Brig. Gen Jesus Fajardo – CG, 710th Special Operations Wing as well as Col. Carlix Donila – Commander, 530th Air Base Wing (Zamboanga).

And in the Navy, the chief of the Naval Staff, Commodore Feliciano Angue, as well as heading the most strategically-located naval station in Cavite is Commodore Nestor Los Banes.

So now the game of the generals are on! Who’ll be check mated in the end?

Now that I already revealed their plan in public, what now? Will they proceed with zero hour or not?

The best strategy against this devilish plan is expose them in public. I already did my part. How about the thousands of Patriots out there? Will you do yours?

An Open Letter from Col. Ariel Querubin, PN (M), AFP

Col. Ariel Querubin

May the Peace of Christ be with you!

I have no doubt in my mind that the Lord has all the while been preparing me for public service. I was left for dead in 1989, and He allowed me to spring back to life. I have been imprisoned as a soldier, but I fully regained the honor and right to wear a soldier’s uniform after having been awarded the Medal of Valor in 2001. As my military career was very much back on track, I was again challenged to choose between right and wrong, between honor and injustice, between good and evil.

Even as we all work for a vibrant and prosperous Philippines, my dream is for every Filipino to enjoy the essence of freedom from poverty, fear, and injustice, to feel the tangible benefits of good governance, and to live comfortably in a society that fosters the unity of the family, protects human rights, and upholds the dignity of all.

I have not had an easy life. My life story has been replete with vivid encounters with injustice poverty, corruption, and war. These painful experiences have shaped this dream. I never succumbed to the lure of material wealth. The physical, mental, and emotional hardships have been painful, but I never sold my soul.

I am fully aware that some people would insist that men in uniform should stay away from politics; that we would serve best our nation if we were fighting wars in Mindanao; that we have no business in meddling with the affairs of the state as we have been formed and trained in the rudiments of war, and not in the civil service, much less in politics. I agree but that assumes that the people who have been entrusted with the public trust have been sincere, honest, and have been true to their pledges.

As a young soldier, armed with idealism and the fire of youth, I have offered my life to defend this country from ALL its enemies. I have suffered long and hard for the principles that I hold dearly. Many of my loved ones have suffered with me – maybe not physically, but certainly have shared in the misery and hardships that I have endured. The fire of idealism still burns in me, but I have been wiser not to engage fire with fire.

With a lot of circumspection, I have decided to run for the senate in 2010. I have no political pedigree. I have no political machinery. I have no financial resources. But I do have honor. I do have principles. I do have courage.

I believe I am ready to take on this new role, with your prayers and support this dream is not too far- fetched. It takes the collective effort of every member of this society to make things improve for a country in disarray… a country that has been plundered… a country whose hope is running dry…

All I can do, on my end, is to make the best effort possible to make society better, stand by my principles, and fight for what is right. There is hope for this country and our people, all we have to do is believe.

This I will do, if not for myself and our generation, then at least for our young children and their children. My warmest personal regards and God bless us all.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Sincerely yours,

ARIEL O QUERUBIN
